from raster to vector format in a pdf

Hi all,

I have a pdf file with raster fonts : is there a way to change them
into vecotr fonts
with no other sources  (Latex or Word...)

I don't think there is a convenient way. This would be like trying to 
recreate whole eggs out of scrambled eggs, or whole cows out of hamburgers.

In theory you could isolate each characater and run an edge-tracing 
program to convert it all to splines or something, but I'm not sure that 
would be useful.

hummm, the thing is that since Adobe Acrobat can reference the fonts
embedded in the documents
I thought it may be able to replace them by other even though I
understand that this operation
requires calculations and everything but anyway, than you for your
explanation.

Theoretically, yes. In practice this involves a level of document 
engineering that is probably more expensive and time-consuming than just 
making a typographic fac-simile of the entire document.

on the contrary, are you aware of a method that would rasterize of pdf
except the fonts ?
I know how to rasterize a full pdf document including the fonts.
