picture is disappearing all the time

Hi,
the thing which bugs me, is very strange: in the preview with the KDE
filemanager the complete contents of the fotograph (a .jpg) are shown, but, of
course in a very small bitmap.
The original pic was 2800x??? pixel in size, as says the exif.
BUT when looking at the .jpg with any program ALL THE TIME only a piece of the
fotograph is shown.
How can I get hold of the COMPLETE pic? The file size is about 33 kByte, so it
is clear, that the preview is very small, but WHERE is it stored and HOW and I
get it???
Thanks,
Aribert Deckers

I'm not quite sure what you're after, but since this newsgroup is about the GIMP program, the answer will be GIMP related. First, the thumbnails for the KDE 3.x.x previews are stored in a hidden directory within your home directory. It's called /.thumbnails If you're looking for the preview thumbnail you see in Konqueror, then that's where it will be. If you open the image using GIMP, and it's so big that you can't see the whole thing on your screen, then you can resize it by hitting the minus (-) key. Each time you press the minus key, the image will shrink. Just hit minus (-) until the whole image can be seen. If your image is only a part image after you've 'shrunk' it down using the minus (-) key, then it was somehow cropped and saved. The whole image no longer exists.

Its worth clearing these folders out from time to time. -- rich

The ONLY thing I have is that ONE file with about 33 kBytes. There is NO thumb
in a separate directory BECAUSE THE FILE IS FROM A WEB-SITE. I downloaeded that
33 kByte thing from a web-site, so there is only THIS ONE PIECE.
And this one piece includes a preview part, which I cannot access. The exif (or
whatever) data part tells me something of an ORIGINAL pic of about 2800x ???
pixels). Th prewvie I can SEE when I hold the mouse cursor of the file manager
of the operating system over it. But GIMP does not give me that preview part.
But I NEED to get my hands on that preview because it shows important things,
which in the truncated part are cut off...
