I have lots of pictures from before digital. Some depending on age suffer badly with colour casts. I remember when I was using photoshop that you could take a measure of part of the picture where there was supposed to be a known colour such as white or a neutral grey. I vaguely remember that the colour cast was inverted and somehow that was added to the picture - it was amazing how well most pictures were cured. Especially a picture from Denmark of Hans Andersen house. As a slide it was suffering badly from a cast - that is now as good as if I had been back there except the people in the photo are now 40-50 years older. Is there any tool in Gimp that will do that - so far I have worked with the sampler+shift key to get the measure and then gone to curves to make the corrections - It does depends on ones ability to match colours and is therefore not quite as good a photoshops.
