Where did the help files go?

I just downloaded the help files for gimp so that I would have them locally. It installed them somewhere on the computer. I then expected that, when I selected "help" in gimp, they would come up. But it seems to bring up the web help files on the gimp site as before. The downloaded files seem to have "disappeared" or at least they're not being used. Can somebody enlighten about how these are used? Thanks.

The help installer should 'find' where you installed gimp and unpack the files there. For a regular install it is C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\help\<language>\ where there should be a load of .html files. but first, start gimp, go to Edit menu -> Preferences -> Help System and see if it says "There is a local installation......" Then change the help browser from gimp to use web browser. See if it works. From memory there is a note on the windows installers page to this effect. -- rich
