Selections - How to switch back to move/adjust mode for Selections already in place?

Not sure that this came though the first time, so I have subscribed and am trying again. Here goes: I have Gimp 2.6 working on my system and find a common problem that I am hoping to get some help with. I will make a rectangular selection and in order to get the selection to fit exactly, sometimes I wish to make that selection, zoom in say to the lower right corner of where I'd like it to be, then I wish to adjust the selection position / size more precisely. But the trouble is, if I switch from selection to Zoom and then back to selection, I can't seem to grab and position the selection like I could when I first made the selection, before I did any zooming. Is there a way to "toggle" or re-activate the ability to grab and move the selection outline after you have selected and then zoomed? Hope that makes sense. I would appreciate any helpful replies. Thank you

Maybe try the hot keys for zoom "+" / "-" or ctrl+mousewheel. That way you do not have to leave the selection tool. -- rich

I have to first click on the tool then click inside the selection and release the mouse button. Then I can click and hold down the mouse button and drag to reposition the selection, etc. I think I was just clicking on the Selection tool again then clicking and holding down the mouse button expecting it to allow me to drag to reposition right off the bat. Have to Click, Release, then I can Click and Drag. Thanks

Sometimes using the keyboard rather than a mouse has advantages and zooming is one of them. Example - press the "1" key and the image is sized to 100%. It means that you do not have to leave the tool you are using. If you have help installed then there is a section near the end -Section I - otherwise there is a good listing at http://www.gimpusers.com/gimp-hotkeys.php -- rich

I wrote a program to let you print the actual keyboard
shortcuts your GIMP uses. I posted it in May 2008 as Message-ID:
<2mbf24p5mht9vi3a33uats4srcbfh6pv6j@4ax.com>. If you want it, and
you can't get it from Usenet, I can send it to you. It's written in
Regina REXX.
