Scanner and Printer troubleshooting

Hey, for a Photoshop-users it's obvious to get the image from scanner into frontmost window of Ps, after the scanning, but by gimp its misterious.. and not even the installation of Gutenprint has elimianted the problem... My scanner will start and gets the image, but its not able to create a image on desktop (where is my target folder for scans) and the button "acquire" (where creates the image- data) shots down definitely the scanner-interface (gimptwain). How should i handle this ? is missed somewhat driver, ect? Help! .my printer scans too (Epson Stylus Dx4000- i'm very sick of the endless list of printer drivers with wash-powder like names!)
