There's not really much anyone can tell you if you don't have at least a little specific info here. Actually, I think Gimp has a tutorial somewhere, and am reasonably sure that SOMEBODY else has probably posted one at some time. Gimp also has a document that you can download, it's in PDF format and my copy is over 600 pages I think, but it has a simple name like "en.pdf" making it difficult to tell what it is sometimes. It's an entire Manual, with all kinds of info from the simplest of basics to using (and writing) your own plugins if you are into that kind of stuff. The best thing you can do besides a tutorial or reading their docs is to just plain play with it for a while. I still do all the time, and along with the docs I find so much cool stuff that would take forever to discover otherwise. Open up Gimp and just create a New File from the menu. Give it a size (most people use pixels for some very good reasons), and in your case with a poster you can use a very nice size, even if it is just to fit on a piece of 8.5X11 paper. If you don't have a preference for a particular type of image file format, you can use Gimp's and have different layers and all kinds of neat things that none of the standard image formats have. Give it a background color for starters, or even better make a whole layer for the background. You can turn it on or off to get better detail in the picture, or even make multiple background layers if you want. Just play, and get the documentation if you can. It should be easily obtainable at Gimp's site for whatever platform you run. If you mess up, use Gimp's undo, or just abandon the file and start over. If you get something you want to keep, save and name it. You'll get a whole lot better over time as you use it, and remember when you are making your own images, you can't really mess them up too bad since you started them to begin with! That's about the best I can do for now! I don't think ASAP and 'learning Gimp' are always compatible. Get the first 2 episodes from MeetTheGimp No. 2 on setting up the Gimp interface is well worthwile. http://meetthegimp.org/getting-the-old-shows/ Lots of useful, short 'how-tos' http://herselfswebtools.com/archives#gimp Aimed more at specific tasks rather than a general issues but worth noting http://gimp-tutorials.net/ http://gimpology.com/ -- rich
