I am using a Canon IP4000 with (of course) OEM ink. I am printing on the following papers: Costco Gloss (about like Canon Photo Paper Pro Epson Heavy Weight Matte HP Lustre Ilford Gallerie Classic Pearl When I used to use Windows and Photoshop I was better able to match what I see on the screen to the print. My monitor was calibrated with a software file I downloaded. I do not actually have the calibration hardware. Now I am using Gimp 2.2 on Unbuntu 7.04. I installed Gutenprint as a postscript driver. Much of the time I get decent color and nice sharp prints. The issue I am having is when printing portraits the flesh tones came out too red; most noticeably when using the Lustre and Pearl papers but also on the others as well. I tried backing off the saturation and using curves on the red channel. Then the print look yellowish and lifeless as far as flesh tones go but the rest was OK. It just seems that it is difficult to find the correct settings for the paper. I need to get the setting so it does not look quite right on the screen but real good when printed. I do not think I can get it right on the monitor and printer at the same time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The strange thing is: with the HP drivers on windows / Mac you can't do this, and calibration with commercial tools costs a lot of money. Now you will use lots of ink?? You may also try to find some ICC profiles that better match your need. Where is documentation on how to use them? I would like to read about in advance.
