Printer and scanner interfaces

Hey, i've installed the last package of Gutenprint (version 5) on my mac osx 10.5 aka Leopard, hoped to get a good software for printing my fotos, but every dialog appears, only that the printer prints nothing, it remains quiet. Exists another software for transferring data from printers to gimp/ the desktop? The Epson-interface is oldy, slow and not really professional. (It works not so good with mac osx) And my scanner is recognized too from gimp, it loads the images from scanner, but after it does not import the date (into gimp or in the desktop) Help.
