How to remove the gray veil ?

Like applying a negative white (black) ? through a gradient mask ? this problem is massive, in every picture took in a museum. thanks, L

New transparent layer colour pick the foreground from the image (very dark brown) apply a gradient - foreground to transparent - to the top third. quick test here http://www.imageno.com/7kmdjv6ncq18pic.html its going to need some experiments with the gradient settings. -- rich

You will need to deal with the top part of the shot before the adjustment that I just suggested...
