I just ran across a site for an application called "Gimpshop," which claims to emulate much of the functionality of Photoshop inside of The Gimp. I'm running GIMP 2.6 now without any major problems....would the addition of this Gimpshop make my life any easier, and, first of all, does it even work?. Thanks in advance. http://gimpshop.en.softonic.com/

I once tried gimpshop and saw no real difference with normal gimp, but then I also not use it very often. I have never ran Photoshop, so I have no idea what to look for. I tried it, because everybody said it was so great. It's for those who have used Photoshop and are having trouble adjusting to the Gimp interface. It doesn't add any functionality to the underlying Gimp program, and in fact usually is built on a Gimp base that's a version or two behind the current Gimp. If you aren't having any problems using The Gimp, Gimpshop won't help, and might even make things MORE difficult. TJ

I did try it a couple of years ago but when it was up-to-date but soon went back to the stock gimp. You can get a similar effect by using the addons from: http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/gimp_portable see the links to photoshop layout - this replaces the regular gimp toolbox with modified icons, its a matter of preference, I can't see much wrong with the standard toolbox. background window - this puts up a grey background behind the gimp windows (used to be the old dewyrdifier plugin) I don't recommend this one, always was a bit buggy. IMHO if you really want to make an improvement, incorporate the left-hand docks into the right-hand dock. See: http://meetthegimp.org/getting-the-old-shows/ and get episode 2 which covers this topic, its based on gimp 2.4 but the principles are the same. -- rich

That is a choice I made and for many reason have stood by it. What reasons would those be? Why would the Windows version of Gimpshop be better than the Windows version of Gimp, when Gimpshop overlays a much older version of Gimp? I would agree when it comes to Linux. Just to see what it was like, I attempted to install Gimpshop into Mandriva Linux a couple of Mandriva versions ago, but Mandriva wouldn't let me unless I first un-installed whichever version of Gimp was on there at the time. Since the Gimp was newer and more capable, I didn't bother with Gimpshop. TJ

I initially tried Gimpshop for a couple of weeks and finally decided to ditch it. The Standard version of Gimp behaves much better. It is maintained better and on a more regular basis. And works the same in all the operating systems that it run on. Thanks in advance. > http://gimpshop.en.softonic.com/ Don't change from 2.6.x Gimpshop is old - still based on gimp 2.2.x It has its own website at www.gimpshop.com/ and there are versions for different OS's. -- rich

Will take your advice and remain GIMPing.

That is a choice I made and for many reason have stood by it.

So since it is not that much more difficult to learn and the support is far better it just seemed more logical. > > I would agree when it comes to Linux. You aren't making any sense. The OP asked about Gimpshop. In your reply you said, "If you are planning on staying with Windows you might want to consider it..." (Go ahead, check for yourself. I'll wait.) Then when I ask why you said that, you tell me why he should use Gimp rather than Gimpshop. A complete turnaround from your first comment. One of these days you're going to give yourself whiplash. TJ
