Using GIMP 2.6.4 in WinXP SP3. Non of the tools work when using the Wacom tablet's mouse or stylus. It would be great if I could get it to work otherwise GIMP is pretty much useless to me. Is there some trick to that? Thanks -- Nathan Gutman

Sorry, I don't know Window$ but a head-up to you: Gimp-2.6.4 and Wacom Intuos 3 work perfectly under Linux, so I'm sure there must be a rather simple way to get this work with officially supported OSs. However... You should run the "pen tablet properties" software at least once (also available in the Control Panel) under each id on which you want to use the tablet, and may be also once under an admin/owner account (because there is a system service set up). The task manager process list should list a Pen_Tablet.exe which runs as SYSTEM (should be the service listed as TabletServicePen in the Services management) and a Pen_TabletUser.exe which runs under the current id. In the Gimp preference/input device dialog, click the "extended input device" button and it should list a tablet pen and tablet eraser. AFAIK there is nothing worth configuring there, it's just a nice place to check that Gimp is tablet-aware. After that, I sometimes find that the pen isn't too responsive but I cannot really put the blame specifically on Gimp which must be merely be using the defined tablet API; the driver could be at fault, too. Flipping the stylus from pen to eraser and vice-versa eventually fixes the problems and everything is fine thereafter. All in all I'm quite satisfied with the result, I just wish one could adjust the pressure sensitivity mapping (pressure->size, pressure-opacity, etc...). -- Bertrand

Running the "pen tablet properties" did the trick. The stylus and the eraser seem to work fine. The mouse is "offset" when used with tools but this is a mere annoyance because the pen can be used.
