Different Toolboxes Views Between Two PCs

Hello. I have Gimmp 2.6.3 on two PCs running on Windows XP. On PC #1, the two toolboxes named "FG/BG" and "Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo" appear to be "welded" together. (i.e. they only have one Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons for both toolboxes.) On PC #2 the two toolboxes are separate and each one has its own Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons. Is it perhaps because PC #2 has a very old graphics card? Thanks. -- Tiziano

I'm not sure what you're talking about. If I'm misunderstood, perhaps you can provide a screen shot showing the two so I can see what exactly you mean. However, I think you're talking about the layers dialog. This is the dialog with the title of "Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo - Brushes, Patterns, Gradients". Is that right? This dialog is broken into two main section: The top half contains the tabs for Layers, Channels, Paths and Undo. The bottom half contains tabs for Brushes, Patterns and Gradients. You can grab a tab with your mouse and drag it out of the dialog, and it will become it's own main window. If you want to put it back into the main dialog, you can grab it by the title area and drag it back into position within the set of tabs. Note: You need to grab it from the correct area. It's the area just above the workspace of the dialog. You'll notice the mouse pointer will turn into a "finger" (I think the actual glyph depends on the OS, but it's a button press image anyway). Am I on the right track?

Dear Mark: Indeed what I want to do is dock two dialog windows and your explanation has contributed to my understanding how it works. I was also able to find additional help at: http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-concepts-docks.html Thanks for your help. -- tb
