If you like Gimp and you like Linux for photographic reproduction and
images and like to do your own photo printing using both wide format
printers like the Epson Stylus Pro3800 and the Epson Stylus 2880 or the
Canon IP5100/6100 and/or the standard format Canon and Epson printers
and like the latest and greatest then this is what you need to do on a
CONTINUAL BASIS.
1. YOU NEED TO REPEATEDLY CALL SALES, MARKETING AND TECH SUPPORT
DEMANDING LINUX DRIVERS AND PRINTER SOFTWARE OUT OF THE BOX.
Canon, HP, and Epson
The mfg do not think their is any demand for it.
2. You need to tell the authors of Gimp that they need to have support
for all of the above named printers and that you use the Gimp for
photography and not just for graphic arts.
3. You need to continually tell your Linux distro authors of the
importance of printing photos on these type of printers. And do not
leave out the expensive large format printers like the 3800 and up.
Even Turbo Print does not support many of the abvoe printers and
when they support something similar they are about 3 years behind in
models. That is a poor showing.

No. GTK+ printing is the way to get basic printing support into all
GTK+-based applications. Anything more advanced should be handled by
Gutenprint. If you want to help, then see if you can contribute to any
of the two projects.

"Repeatedly" and "continually" telling people the same message from the same source will only turn them off. After a while they simply stop listening. You should know about that, from your constant and repetitive message on the other newsgroup we both frequent. Anybody who's heard it a few times either ignores it, gets annoyed, or both. What's needed is messages from many sources, often enough to be noticed, but not so often as to be annoying. Annoying people gets you nowhere. TJ

I have over 45 years of dealing with the public, selling vegetables in retail. A careful observer will learn something about human nature in that time. Annoying people will get you nowhere. Telemarketers that call me on the phone annoy me, and they don't get my business. Politicians that annoy me don't get my vote. Businesses that flood TV with annoying ads don't get my business. BTW, thanks for proving my point. My post annoyed you, so you dismiss me. TJ
