Hello all, I'm looking for a plugin/script/tutorial to create artificial spikes, like they are typical for astronomic photographs of bright stars, eg: http://www.robgendlerastropics.com/M45STLmosaic.html http://www.robgendlerastropics.com/ConemosaicNM.html (please take a look at the bigger image versions also) The Gimp filter under "Filter -> Light and Shadows -> Sparkle" is not usefull for this kind of look. Any recommendations welcome. TIA, Frank

Any recommendations welcome. Okay, I found some probably usefull filter well covered under Filter -> Light and Shadow -> Gradient Flare Pros: - A quick trial shows the ability to create very aestetic looking flares Cons: - Preview size is tiny and doesn't increase when the dialog size is increased. This makes it very hard to position the flare exactly on a stars cener - To custimize the filter, a sub dialog has to be opened and one has to press "OK" (and close) this sub dialog to see the filter effect in the tiny preview thumbnail of the main dialog. One has to press again "OK" and thus close the main dialog to see if the resul fits what was needed - After reopen this same dialog, all values of the sub dialog are set to some default, which probably hass nothing in common of what was worked out before. - For the positioning issue, one has to read and note the coordinates of a needed cursor position from the image windows state bar. - One must repeat this whole procedure multiple times to touch up multiple stars. My current conlcusion: Very pleasing results possible but the way to get them is unprecise, long and stony. Additions, workarounds, comments anyone? Frank
