3D medical image processing algorithms

Hello,

This is Naina. I would like to know if anyone is aware of 3D medical
image processing algorithms. If yes could you please let me know if
there is any link to know about these algorithms.
I am supposed to develop the algorithm and software for measuring the
thickness of the Ganglion cell layer in the retinal of eyes.

I would be greatful if anyone can advice me to which algorithm to be
used for the same.
